Just finished the Fort in Peril with my wife. Each of us plays 2 characters so it was Merisiel, Amiri, Sajan, and Ezren. It was fantastic. 4 turns left on the blessing deck (and Holy Candle was rolled as a 4). I feel I always get too greedy when the henchmen come up early in a deck. I encouraged Merisiel to evade Lucrecia on her first turn at one point because she was the first card in the prison. I mean, how can you not get greedy with Merisiel at the prison? And Amiri wasn't making things easy. First she encounters Kaven Windstrike alone at the fort, who I shall now deem the toughest henchman we've ever encountered. So she's rolling her d4 charisma vs his now 12 difficulty check. And then he's banished after the encounter so she has no hope of closing this location without clearing the deck. Then later she comes to help Sajan at the City Gate when we know the villain is there. She's supposed to clear a card and then hop back to the Guard Tower to be ready to temp close it. And she trips over some explosive runes that basically wipe out Sajan's hand. She did do the majority of the acquiring of the better cards, so I guess she made up for it.
The "random" cards in the scenario also ended up being super thematic. We encountered both Vale Temros and Jakardros Sovark, and acquired them thanks to the scenario's rule. And we had two random monster encounters with Ogres in addition to the henchmen. So it was a blast. Kaven Windstrike was at the fort, which felt right like he was the one that let the Ogres in. (I'm assuming since he has the ranger trait he was a Black Arrow Ranger that betrayed them or something.)
And we got some sweet cards after not having our decks change hardly at all for 2 adventures straight. In addition to the above we got Venomous Dagger +2, Magic Studded Leather Armor, Shock Longbow +1, Belt of Giant Strenght, Scrying (the one spell in the whole scenario), Brodert Quink, and the Cat. So Ezren is pretty stacked now and if he has the cat in his hand, has a minimum spell recharge roll of 10.
But two questions came up that I wasn't 100% sure on.
1. When we encountered Lucrecia, one of the reasons I was able to convince Mersiel to evade her was she had good cards in her hand and didn't want to take the 1d4-1 Force damage. But as I read the card I wondered. If a character encounter Lucrecia with no cards in the discard pile, then discards 1 or more cards as a result of the 1d4-1 before the encounter effect, do they then bury one of those newly discarded cards to handle her "any character dealt damage by Lucrecia also buries 1 random card from his discard pile" power? I didn't have to decide since she was evaded that time and then next time she was encountered there were cards in Merisiel's discard pile. I'm thinking yes because of "Finish one thing before you start another." So you'd discard the 1d4-1 then also bury 1 random card from your discard pile, which would now have cards in it.
2. We also hit encountered the carrionstorm at the city gate and failed the check to defeat. (Amiri and Sajan were together and Amiri hit some explosive runes on her turn, Sajan rolled a 5 on the 2d4, his ring of protection kept him 1 card, but that was all he had to deal with the carrionstorm on his turn). So the question is, carrionstorm says it is returned to the top of the location deck. The City Gate says to shuffle a random monster into the location if you fail a check to defeat a monster. So is the order return carrionstorm, then shuffle in a random monster (thus nullifying carrionstorm's power) or shuffle in a random monster than return carrionstorm? I'm thinking its return than shuffle again due to the "finish one thing before you start another rule" so I'd finish resolving the encounter with carionstorm then shuffle in the monster according to the location decks' rule. Plus location cards trump monster cards.
The more I type about this the more convinced I am I was right and didn't need to ask, but now I figure I typed this much, I might as well click submit.
I'm so excited about Here Comes the Flood having looked over the scenario and read some of the postings. I'm just hoping we can find time for it tomorrow. Man, I love this game.
