[Tripod Machine] Monsters amalgamated?

The amalgam creature template from the Advanced Bestiary combines two monsters to create something new. Lately, I've been really amused by the possibilities, so I've been mixing up all kinds of stuff. Some of the results have been, IMO, really good. What would you guys think of a book of amalgamated monsters? Is that too much of a gimmick?

If you like the idea, how many monsters would you consider an ideal amount of content?

Would you consider it essential to have art for every monster? Normally, I consider this something more or less mandatory, but art can add a huge amount to the cost of a monster book. This is further complicated by the monsters in this particular book having... unique appearances. So, almost no stock art is usable, and any new art would require an artist with a pretty good imagination.

you mean something like this?

More like, what happens when you cross a harpy with bulette?

Ah, gotcha

Dark Archive

As many creatures as needed to be interesting, and to justify whatever price-point you want to set.

As for an actual number, that is relatively irrelevant, so long as there is delicious flavor for each creature.
