Q1: one of the abilities on Merisiel's (the rogue) role card (thief) says I can use my charisma in place of any skill to recharge a card with the magic trait. Does this mean I can attempt to recharge spells, or is this still a no-go because of the lack of an actual Arcane or Divine skill?
Q2: If Merisiel evades a monster in the woods, is it considered undefeated, and thus banished?
Thanks in advance!

Even if Merisiel's ability weren't specific about the card types it works with, it wouldn't apply to the standard recharge box on spells.
Each spell tells you to banish it if you don't have the appropriate skill. The recharge box for each spell tells you how to recharge it "instead of discarding it" (usually), not "instead of banishing it", so if you lack the correct skill, the opportunity to recharge just doesn't come up for you, even if you could somehow succeed on the check.

Brand new player needing help to understand Merisiel's powers. I seem to have confused myself as to how recharging might work in combination with Merisiels secondary power. Here is what I'm hoping to learn:
Merisiel's secondary power says you may recharge a card to add 1d6 to a combat check or discard it to add an additional 1d6.
So I'm curious to know how that might work in combination with items that have recharge abilities, if at all.
For example: If I use her power on a combat check to add 2d6 and choose to discard an item with the recharge ability
Can I then attempt a check to recharge that item instead of losing it to my discard
-or-
Is the item discarded before I am able to attempt the check to recharge it
Clearly I'm confused as to how these actions might trigger but I want to be sure I'm playing properly as it could obviously sway the momentum of the game.
Any information or help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You

You can only attempt a recharge check on a card when you play that card for its power.
Doing something with a card that does not use a power on that card does not count as playing that card. For example, when Seelah discards a spell to use a power on her character card, the discarded card does not count as being played (meaning she also can’t recharge it).
When Merisiel discards a card to use her power, that card is not being played, so you can't attempt to recharge it.

Thank you very much for your help that makes perfect sense
