Periapt of Health vs Mummy Rot

Rules Questions

I have a players who fought a mythic mummy. One of them was afflicted with mummy rot. He subsequently acquired a periapt of health. He now claims that wearing the periapt makes him immune to the disease, or at the very least delays its effect.

My question is this: 1.) does a periapt of health end any ongoing diseases immediately upon wearing it and 2.) if it does not remove them, does it suppress them?

I realize that I can just say no it doesn't, but I don't like to just use "because I said so" as justification when possible. Any rules govern this scenario?

None that I know of specifically, but here's how I'd rule it: if you already have the disease when you wear the Periapt, the disease is not cured, but you are considered to automatically succeed at all saving throws against it. For most diseases, you'll be cured after two or three days automatically.

The Rot doesn't go away, though. Tell the player that his character feels better and is no longer suffering Ill effects. Then, when he eventually takes it off, bam! Mummy rot.

Seems pretty straightforward. The character is immune. Any already taken ability damage/drain would still be in place, but the disease itself would stop immediately.

See also this FAQ as to whether disease immunity works on mummy rot (it being a curse and a disease).

Edit: Ooh, reread the mummy rot description:

Quote:
Mummy rot is both a curse and disease and can only be cured if the curse is first removed, at which point the disease can be magically removed. Even after the curse element of mummy rot is lifted, a creature suffering from it cannot recover naturally over time. Anyone casting a conjuration (healing) spell on the afflicted creature must succeed on a DC 20 caster level check, or the spell is wasted and the healing has no effect. Anyone who dies from mummy rot turns to dust and cannot be raised without a resurrection or greater magic. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Since the character already contracted it, they'd also need a remove curse even with the post facto periapt. Once they got the curse removed, though, the periapt ought to do the rest automatically. Until then, the mummy rot should continue to harm the character even with the magic rock.
