Foehammer sword and board build

Hello folks, longtime reader of the boards but playing with a build that I think has gotten a little beyond me and needed some help.

For this build, i'm looking to combine the alternate racial trait for Dwarves (Relentless) along with Shield Slam, Improved/Greater Bull Rush, Improved/Greater Trip, and the Foehammer abilities.

Relevant house rules we use:
*Stat requirements for feats reduced by 1 (we don't like odd stats)
*One free feat for all characters
*We have the Dwarven Warhammer (equivalent to the Dwarven Waraxe but "B")
*Stat array: 16, 14, 14, 12, 12, 10
*We would be running the feat bonuses added to the attack roll for bull rush aspect of of improved shield bash

Here's what i'm thinking:
Str: 16 (4th and 8th bumps into str)
Dex: 14
Con: 16 (+2 racial)
Int: 12
Wis: 14 (+2 racial)
Cha: 8 (-2 racial)

Feats:
1 Two Weapon
1 Imp Shield Bash
1 Double Slice
2 Expertise
3 Power Attack
4 Imp Bull Rush
5 Imp Trip
6 Shield Slam
7 Imp Two Weapon (assuming a dex item by this point)
8 Gr Bull Rush
9 Gr Trip
10 ??- not sure from here

Will end up +8 bull rush (+2 relentless, +2 foehammer, +4 feats) and +6 trip (+2 foehammer, +4 feats)

So the plan is to stay effective early on with just two weapon fighting and carrying a decent ranged weapon as well. Around 7, I see him bashing people for the bull rush and with the foehammer ability, getting the trip and eventually the AoO from Gr Trip on them as well.

Do you guys think it would actually work out this way? Anyone have experience with something similar? I think it may look good on paper but in the game i'll be hurting the char and party ultimately by gobbling up movement with bull rushes and killing any full attacks. What might you change/add?


Do you really want to go sword and board? Bullrushing works best with 2-handed reach weapons. That being saied, trip is an excellent martial maneuver for any TWF, so you can have a TWF Foehammer who works well. Just drop the bullrush feats, or at least w8 until higher lvls to get them. Anyway, you need to take the Shield Master feat asap if you follow the TWF route.


I'm fairly attached to the sword and board concept. This was ultimately born out of the desire to play the classic dwarf fighter. I'd originally intended to use Axe and shield, but realized with every build I was looking at, a human would be better overall with +2 str and the bonus feat (at least at the early levels)

So I started looking into what I could use that was dwarf specific and could play to their strengths to find a way that it could stand out. The synergy between the racial trait and foehammer looked pretty good.

Thanks for the info though, I may just play around with some of those ideas instead.


Okay, been doing some research on feats to plug in instead of the imp and gr bull rush but not seeing a lot that builds on this. Shield Focus maybe? Step up? I think I would still get the most bang for the bull rush feats.

Also, would anyone have suggestions on traits? I had planned on the one that involved ignoring the first -1 to hit on Expertise to make that a little more useful and possibly dangerously curious.
