Just how big is the Rusty Dragon and the White Deer?

Rise of the Runelords

Ok, I'm curious just how big these inns are and how many rooms they have. Now Sandpoint is a town of roughly 1200 people...a decent sized place for the most part. The Swallowtail festival is a big time event...merchants would easily be coming from Magnimar if not farther to hock their wares during the festival.

With the large intake in population from people outside the city plus the merchants etc...how can these two establishments possibly have enough space to hold everyone new to town for the festival? Now I realize I have a tendency to over think things way too much...but it just seems like when my PC's get to town (all but one will be arriving the morning of the festival) there will not be a place available for them to stay.

Now because they'll be helping out the town via the events that happen to start the module...I'm sure allowances can be made. However, one would think that more permanent housing (aka an actual room as opposed to a common room type cot) could not be had until the following day at the earliest when some of the people undoubtedly decide to leave Sandpoint to head back to their actual homes.

Does anyone have a size/room chart for the inns? Has anyone come up with any ideas regarding the possibility of rooms not being available?

Townspeople might be willing to rent out a spare room or pitch a cot. Some people would prefer to stay with the wagons or sleep under the stars. Worse comes to worse, a sympathetic farmer can offer up the hayloft.

I don't have the book right in front of me but surely there's other establishments that would have rooms for rent? There's a brothel, right? Maybe boarding houses? Plus there are probably non-noteworthy little taverns or inns that are just not keyed on the map?

IRL in a situation like that, room rates would spike due to high demand. Low-level PCs might not be able to afford a room even if there was one available.

I can't remember which one, but one of the pathfinder comics has a description of the Rusty dragon, with number of rooms and maybe even a map in it, I will check it when I get home today and let you know.

I do remember that she lets people pay to just sleep on the tavern floor at night.

I think Sam Clemens here has the right of it. Most of the influx that Sandpoint would be seeing during the Swallowtail Festival is probably taken care of through paying for the common room. Basically, the floor of the Rusty Dragon (and probably all the other inns in town during this busy time) are converted over to pallets for people to sleep on. It's cheap, no-frills, but it solves the problem of where the common folk sleep when the private rooms are all filled by PCs and more important NPCs.

Also, merchants or caravan guards at least might sleep by the wagons (or in them) to protect merchandise.

SO, the description of the rusty dragon in the back of the Pathfinder #9 comic lists that it has 12 rooms, 6 regular, and 6 luxury. You can sleep on the tavern floor for a copper, its 5 silver for a standard room, or 3 silver if you have a good story. The luxury rooms are 2 gold a night, or 1 gold if you have a good story. 1 of the 6 luxury rooms is reserved for special guests, like Shelelu.

thank you for the info.
