Skald Advanced Class & Scribe Scroll

Hey there. I want to make a Skald for the playtest, but notice that is has 'Scribe Scroll' as a class feature. Since Scribe Scroll is not permitted in Society play, has an alternate feat/feature been determined yet?

Nope. Per Additional Resources you loose the feat.

Additional Resources: Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Class Guide Playtest wrote:

All ten classes (Arcanist, Bloodrager, Brawler, Hunter, Investigator, Shaman, Skald, Slayer, Swashbuckler, and Warpriest), as they are released, are legal for play so long as you have a print or PDF version of the playtest document. We reserve the right to change, alter, modify, or outright disallow various functions of these classes, especially during the playtest, and players using these playtest options are expected to frequently monitor the Pathfinder Society messageboards for changes while playing these classes during the playtest. You will be forced to update your character—adjusting only the features that have changed, not rebuilding entirely—once the Pathfinder RPG Advanced Class Guide is released. We strongly encourage you to use your play experience to report on what works and doesn’t work with the playtest classes on their specific messageboards on paizo.com.

Arcanist: An arcanist does not receive the Scribe Scroll feat at 3rd level.

Investigator: An investigator is treated as an alchemist for the purpose of creating alchemical items and poisons.

Skald: A Skald does not receive the Scribe Scroll feat at 1st level.

Looks like you just simply don't get anything, probably to help judge if the class is still functional without it (without adding in other variables.)

Ooops. Missed that in the guide. Thanks.

Shouldn't they get Spell Focus instead for PFS? Like the wizard?

Seems logical and they'll likely do that in the future, but for the playtest, nope, you get nothing.

Dark Archive 3/5

so as of the 04.04.14 additional resources, which i thought were close to final, still no spell focus instead of scribe scroll.

Has anyone heard any new information or are skalds just boned?

also, it appears that even with medium armor proficiency, skalds still have arcane failure if the spell has a somatic component?

Skalds don't yet have a replacement because the playtest version of the class was subject to change for the final version of the class to be published in August. Among other things, it reduces the amount of prospective feat retraining that one might have to do should the skald not have Scribe Scroll in its final rendition; I haven't looked at the final version yet, so I don't know.

Once we have a final version in print, it's entirely likely that Mike and I will provide a replacement feat or ability for classes that gain an otherwise illegal bonus feat.

While I have not heard anything, my expectation based on experience and not-so-common-sense is that this will not change until the release of the book itself; likely there will then be Additional Resource notes made either as it releases or at the end of the month it releases detailing the legality of the book in PFS, and I would /expect/ that swap-outs will be noted then and not before.

IIRC from previous Gencon seasons, there will be Additional Resource notations for anything they start selling at Gencon just beforehand so that people will know how they can make use of their new purchases there.
