What an outstanding game!

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Hi Ray here from Oz,
I have found THE GAME! I'm a veteran gamer, not the best player around but I first played D & D in 1985, Final Fantasy books in 1984 and board games around the same time. I've played and own stacks of games, many of the classics such as Risk, War Of the Ring, Twilight Imperium, Axis and Allies, Fortress America, Mage Wars, Talisman, Memoir 44, Battlelore, Summoner Wars, Shogun etc so I have a little experience in these fields. I've also played many card games such as Magic the Gathering and Lord of the Rings LCG.

Pathfinder the Adventure Card Game will stand proudly among them. I'm addicted. While the rules are simple enough and I have won some games easily, I have died numerous times and ran out of time even more. I do like the Wandering Monster Variant and I will adopt this when I play stronger, fighter types.

I've taken Seelah and Lem on a campaign and it took me 5 goes to succeed at the very first scenario. As my characters grew I began to find it easier but when Seelah slipped and I restarted her character, the win-loss ratio has been 50-50. I love this game. I haven't found one so addictive in such a long time and like so many other fans I can't pinpoint exactly why.

I've also played with my daughters one of which (my teenager believe it or not!) is also addicted despite this technological brain numbing age. This game has drawn her away from I-pad and Facebook-a true tribute to you Mike!

Sure, it has small issues such as with print on some cards but I feel those who complain about the rules are getting too bogged down in complexities rather than enjoying the spirit of the game. I haven't been so addicted to a game since Summoner Wars which is struggled to get game time

It is a quick and simplified version of D&D and while the RPG aspect can never replace the iconic game, you can play more often and create a lesser but still a fantasy experience. It also has the humour of Talisman (like when Seelah died in combat to a goblin with four dice! Poor planning as well I know) without investing 4 hours. It has a variety of characters which you can build up, monsters to beat and you get to roll dice! I can play solo after work while watching TV and a beer. Need I say more?

Keep it coming Mike and Paizo! PS. I also loved that we down here in Oz we didn't have to wait months after the US to get our hands on it. I bought Skinsaw off the shelf at end of October. Outstanding service. Keep this game coming for years to come, I promise that I won't get bored! Fantastic Paizo!

Neat. Especially happy to hear that the supply channel worked for Australia.

ray here,
I must say Mike I have been extremely impressed with you as a designer. I have never seen someone attend to their fans and customers like you have with this game. Not only should you be proud of your wonderful game but the effort you put in to help players and discuss rules is way above and beyond! You must average 2 hours sleep a day! Thanks for your reply. About to take on Skinsaw with Merisiel and Kyra.Wish me luck against the damned!
Cheers mate!

Mike, I'll certainly echo what they said (although the OP left Avalon Hill's Wizards off the list of all-time game greats), but I think it extends to Paizo at large. While I don't get to play the full game very often at all (which is one of the reasons I love PACG), I eagerly await all my shipments (which you can tell from my by-line is substantial). The amazing thing is that while Vic posts here on the boards pretty regularly, he also clones himself on the other product boards.

This level of support (which is amazing) is actually typical for Paizo. It's what I love about all that they do.

Eagerly awaiting the very-early-in-the-week info on the next iteration of these marvelous game.

Truth.

I want to echo those sentiments in the OP. I haven't played a paper and pencil RPG in about 20 years and I think the last commuter RPG I played was Dragon Wars on a 3.5 inch floppy. For the paper and pencil games, none of my middle/high school friends nor my brothers made a particularly good GM. So while we always loved the concept, the execution usually fell flat.

But a friend (Calthaer to you) invited me to play and so I gave it a try. After all this was the same man who introduced me to Settlers of Catan before it was even available in English. He bought it while living in Germany and spent time translating the cards and instructions into English for us. So I trusted he knew a good thing when he saw it.

After playing a couple of times, I have now bought my own copy. I've introduced it to my brothers and even a few of those friends from 20 years ago that I still know. It totally takes care of the problem we had: wanting to have am enjoyable RPG when no one had the time/talent to devote to all the prep work. So from me to you, thanks Mike and team and Paizo for the product you've made. It has brought back a fun experience that not only did I think I would never enjoy again, but that I hadn't even given a thought to in the nearly 20 years since I had last tried anything like this. And thanks Calthaer for suggesting the game. I am having an absolute blast and look forward to all the enjoyment to come.
