Can a Hat of Disguise fool a construct?
Context: IMC the PCs have just killed the golem's master. They're now using a Hat to disguise themselves as him, so that the golem won't attack them.
Now, under the RAW constructs are immune to "all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms)." However, the Hat works like a Disguise Self spell, which is a glamer. So, under a strict reading of the RAW, it seems like the construct would be fooled, though I suppose it would still get a Will save. Is that correct?
thanks much,

What kind of construct are you talking about, and does it have telepathy with it's master? I recall running against a clockwork golem with in the situation you described, but because it had telepathy with it's master, whom we'd just killed, the golem knew on the spot that our bard wasn't really it's master, who it had felt dying through telepathy.
EDIT: Glamors would make the player look like the golem's master, but unless the person tried to give the golem an order, the golem might not attack the person wearing the Hat of Disguise. Also, I seem to recall that a golem can be created with a link to it's creator so that it's creator's commands would be magically transmitted to the golem, though that might have been a specific golem that our GM had created. Rules-wise, unless that golem has telepathy with it's master or the construct actually saw you kill it's master, you could probably sneak past the construct with your hat of disguise so long as you didn't give it an order.

The golem was created by someone else. Current master does not have a telepathic link with it. (And, of course, he's dead now because the PCs killed him.) Current master left some standing orders, including "protect me, my laboratory, and my stuff". So the PCs are using the Hat to disguise one PC as the master so they can loot the lab and take his spellbook and all.

It could also depend on how the Golem was created on how it defines its master. If it was created to recognize whoever held a particular item as its master then it wouldn't care what you look like if you don't have that item it won't think you are its master, and if you do, it will think you are its master.
Failing any magical/supernatural ability to tell who it's master is then it should work just like it does for any normal guard.
Please note, some Golems with low intelligence will take commands quite literally and because it was commanded to protect his laboratory and stuff, unless otherwise commanded it could be required to protect it from its master as well. (Although with it being required to protect the master it would avoid hurting you if it thinks you are its master, but your friends are in trouble.)
