Total Faction Prestige

I have two characters in the same faction. I noticed that their prestige is tallied for a total faction prestige. How does this effect my individual characters? Can each character use the pooled prestige/fame?

No, its just something for folks at paizo to keep track of, in case say the scarzini aren't meeting their season goals and they want to give the faction head a pair of cement shoes.
