Fzoul Chembryl

Homebrew and House Rules

Long story short, PCs are trying to recollect the power of the Dead Three for Jergal. One is a Anti-Paladin (Lawful Evil because I can't stand the Chaotic Evil version) of Jergal and he wishes to see his god returned to former glory.

Back story. NOT NEEDED, just in case your interested:

Currently they have the Crown of Thorns... that's been fun hehe

The Anti-Pally was born a Bhaalspawn, died, lost his power, came back as a normal Half-Orc. Did an uber sacrifice of one of his siblings to regain that divine spark, and they JUST finished killing the rest of them. He now has Divine Rank 0 in accordance to Deities and Demigods.

Their next goal is to confront Fzoul Chembryl to get the Scepter of the Tyrant's Eye.

With the Crown, the Scepter and the Bhaal Spark, they look to take down first Cyric, then Bane, then (sadly since they like this guy) Kelemvor.

Other side notes. They have Cyrinishad... They intend to use a serious amount of deception and intrigue to trick Cyric into reading the book again, then while he is weak, murdering him. They hope that this will transfer Murder to the Anit-Paladin (Divine Rank 1ish changing the whole way of game play!!!), and the rest of the portfolios will go to Mask (see below).

Obviously not all events are cannon, but this is taking place around year 1374, and Mask has just turned back into Godsbane to be used against Bhaal [who he's killed before], Kelemvor [same], and Cyric [who he's hated for a couple decades] and rest is the hands of his Alchemist/False Priest worshiper (who actually worships Mask but pretends to worship about...50 other gods, literally a bag of holding full of holy symbols collected along the way LOL).

Mask has his own reasons for this, namely trying to break his contract with his mother Shar.

Don't worry about details, just figured I'd give back story if your interested.

But first they need the scepter, and that's in Fzoul's hands. I need to convert him over to Pathfinder since not all the abilities match up...

Advice?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

LE Human Cleric of Bane 20/Hierophant 10 (CR 26/MR 10); includes a +2 CR for "Exceptional Stats" (25-pt. buy) and "Exceptional Wealth" (as per a PC).

I don't know anything about divine ranks, but the closest thing Pathfinder has is mythic ranks (included in my above suggestion).

Fzoul is NOT epic. He has no Divine rank or levels beyond 20. Technically as currently written (in 3.5) he's Cleric 17 /Hierophant 2 (except Hie is a PRC not a mythic/epic thing. It's achievable at level 13 to enter).

I will prpbably build him level 20, but currently no Pathfinder PRC matches that one...

He's pretty much a demi-god in 4E, but during the 3.5 timeline--he's weaker, yea. In any case, 20th level is appropriate. I'd give him the mythic ranks if I were running him (then again, he's one of my favorite realms characters; only Szass Tam is cooler).

Thanks :)

Some issues.

Feat build?

Domains? (Tyranny doesn't exist, and no equivalent does).

Hierophant doesn't exist.

Do I go straight lv 20 cleric? Do I PRC?

Chosen Spells for an all out duel that he'll be 100% aware of before hand?

Tactics for the 'end battle' in his temple?

How should is set them up?

He's effectively the end boss of the MORTAL game... after him they deal with gods... 3 god. I want this to feel epic!!!

Feats should be pretty standard; use the listed feats from 3.5 as a base (included in the Campaign Setting Book).

The Tyranny subdomain should work as a replacement.

Hierophant exists as a mythic path; when the rules came out, the first thing I thought was, Wow--these would work awesome for use with the Forgotten Realms. Hell, Fzoul was one of the characters that came to mind! Not to mention all of the other "chosen of" characters.

20th level cleric should do the trick.

When he is confronted, make sure he's loaded up with buffs, maybe with some contingencies in place, too (not to the same extent that the Manshoon's got, but still). He can summon the eight death tyrant beholders, as well (you can use the stats presented at the back of the Campaign Setting Book as a starting point, since stats are slightly different in Pathfinder).

Before combat, he could gate in some devils. And then, during combat, toss a quickened destruction (with a rod), immediately followed by implosion, for example, to cause some serious damage.

Haven't his 3.5 version had Chosen Of Bane template? It might be in later sourcebook than the core when he advanced as the timeline was moved a bit, though... It would be equivalent to a few mythic tiers probably.

Has anyone converted the Death Tyrant?

And for copy write issues, we'll call it the 'Teath Dyrant'.

Fzoul was converted both in 4e's Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide (pretty lame version actually) and in Living Forgotten Realms as a 29th-level elite opponent, along with Manshoon and Szass Tam!

(The FRCG was written before the Monster Manual 3, so its monsters have bad math and are too prone to lockdown.)

The death tyrant has never officially been converted, but there are lots of undead beholders in the DDI. The closest is probably to take a standard beholder, give it resistance 20 necrotic, vulnerable 10 radiant, the undead subtype, and remove some eye rays and replace them with paralyzing eye rays instead... although you can skip that last part of the "template" if you like.

Alas, the generic beholder isn't nearly as high-level as Fzoul (assuming you're using an official version and not creating your own ~17th-level version). Also, he's already an elite, and they shouldn't outclass him. You might have to create some higher-level versions.

Yeah, 3.5 Fzoul was "only" Cleric 17/Hierophant 2, but was also Chosen of Bane (a pretty kicka$$ template).

I think using Mythic tiers to represent any of the Chosen is the way to go in PF.

Evangelist is an amazing class to replace the Hierophant prestige class, probably use Asmodeus' boons as a base for Bane.

Other options would be Divine Scion and Exalted
Cleric 20; Cleric 16/Divine Scion 4; Cleric 10/Evangelist 10

Hierophant Mythic path is certainly the right choice. I don't know if he should have 10 ranks though, maybe less.

Maybe a reskinned advanced (Mythic 1-2 tier?) Devouerer for the Death Tyrant?

And shouldn't this have been moved to Conversions rather than Homebrew?
