Wizard's Familiar Question & Sanity Ideas

Advice

I'm currently DM'ing a Ravenloft campaign that I have transferred over to Pathfinder. One of my players is a Human Witch that failed a Sanity check and now has Monophobia. I would like to capitalize on this in an upcoming haunted mansion they will be visiting.

My question is, does the familiar that the witch has keep him from being alone? If it does, do any of you have any advice on how I can get this witch alone in the dark?

The haunted mansion is going to be a a place of madness that will damage there sanity points. Anyone have some creative ideas to make these players go insane?

- Darkness/Silence spells focused directly on the familiar
- An illusion of the familiar turning to the witch menacingly and saying "you've FAILED (insert Patron here)! You disgust us." and then leaving the PC after the two have been briefly separated
- a successful enemy's grapple check on the familiar followed by the creature's removal to a Rope Trick or similar extraplanar trap. That way the witch won't feel the familiar's presence at all

I'm sure there's other ways to swing it.

Well this witch is rather hard headed. If I used Darkness he would just argue he has an empathic link with his familiar so he would not be alone.

Also would silence effect the familiar? I know its a magical beast but its not like its summoned with verbal component.

Th extra-planar trap is a good idea.
