Quick question about Qinggong Monks.

Rules Questions

Searching Google and reading forums for hours and I can't seem to find exactly how this works.

I understand you swap out a class feature for a Ki power but is there a rule on which feature you can swap for which Ki power? Do you have to swamp a class feature for a Ki power of equal or lower level or can you mix and match things?

For instance

Slow Fall class feature you get at 4th level. Can I drop Slow Fall and take Blinding Critical (20th level Ki power) and just not be able to use it until 20th level?

I'm asking because High Jump is obtained at 5th level however there are no 5th level Ki powers. So am I forced to swamp High Jump for a 4th level Ki power? If so does that particular Ki power able to be used at 4th level or do you not get to use it until 5th level which you would of obtained High Jump?

Thanks!

You can swap for same level or lower. So High Jump swaps for 4th level powers.

By the way, Qinggong Monk says, "Requirements: All ki powers have a minimum monk level requirement to select them. A monk who does not meet this requirement cannot select that ki power."

Therefore the level Ki Power you select is based on your monk level.

You can swap out a power to get any power that you currently qualify for, so no you can't swap slow fall for a power with a requirement higher than 4th.

So, if you swap out high jump, you can pick any Qinggong power listed under 4th level powers (because you aren't 6th level yet)

At 7th level you can swap out wholeness of body for a 4th level power or a 6th level power.

At 12th level you can swap abundant step for a 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th or 12th level power.

And so on and so on.

Okay so I can't actually swap out High Jump until I've reached 5th level.. and then I can take a 4th level Ki power.

I figured that's the way it worked but just wanted some clarification. Thanks!

It occurs to me, though I am sure that it is not the RAW, that if you treated each instance of Slow Fall as its own feature, like Fighters with Weapon or Armor Training, you'd have potential swaps available for every level of Ki powers.

Only we know that slow fall is considered only one single feature because slow fall is also a single choice that can be selected (as opposed to exchanged) by a Qinggong monk.
