Ultimate Equipment Tables

Rules Questions

Hello,

I just got Ultimate Equipment. I have a question about the tables. I notice that a lot of the tables have entries for "lesser" and "greater" items, but I see nothing on how to decide whether an item the PCs find or buy is lesser or greater? If I want to use the tables for rolling, how do I know where to start, is I guess my question?

Silver Crusade

The appendix should have this information…basically, if you want the hoard to be totally random, you determine the “treasure budget” for the encounter (there is a treasure values per encounter table if you want to use it), then determine the treasure type based on the creature that was smote, then pick out the Value from each type (for instance the 10,000 gp for type D says Lesser medium armor, lesser minor weapon). So then you roll on the table once for lesser medium armor and once for lesser minor weapon.

Appendix

Okay thanks for that. Please allow me to clarify my question.

My PCs were in Thrushmoor last night, and I was wanting to roll the magic items for sale in the city. The stat block says it has 3d4 Minor items, etc. If I am rolling the minor items in the settlement, how do I know if a minor item is lesser or greater?

This is really what I was trying to ask; I'm running an adventure path so the monster treasure is all picked out for me already.

The core rulebook and ultimate equipment aren't quite fully compatible on the matter...

my advice is to either just roll items from the core book, or roll an item in the core book to find approximate value, then roll on the ultimate equipment chart appropriate for that value of item - all the UE charts are built with cost ranges as their determining factor.

You can find which weapons/armors are minor when you look at the tables that precede the description of magical weapons/armor.

For example, this page:

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ultimateEquipment/magicArmsAndArmor/armo rSpecialAbilities.html

Look at the tables above the descriptions, it has lesser minor and greater minor armor enchantments listed and their roll%

Good luck and have fun!

(I go by the rule that if you use the appendex for item generation from ultimate equipment, use corresponding information only from ultimate equipment (Unless that's impossible). They design the roll percentages and chances around that).

Thanks Nobledrake. That seems like it's true, but you'd think that's a rather BIG oversight eh?

"Let's go to all the trouble to make these categories for items (which is cool, and shows a lot of thought)...but we won't give a care to telling people how to determine WHICH category to start with."

Frodo, that link you posted seems to be dead. Doesn't show anything for me. I think you may misunderstand what I'm asking (but I can't be sure, because I can't view your link).

I understand that Ultimate Equipment shows me all the different lesser and greater enchantments. What I'm asking, is how do I know, when I roll an item, whether to go to the lesser or greater table? They're both separate tables.

Has anyone else encountered this and house-ruled a way around it? I'd really love to use the tables from UE but this problem is causing an issue for me.

When writing my item generator, this is what I decided to go with: 50% chance of lesser, 50% chance of greater. And when "least" items are possible (in the case of slotless wondrous items), make the odds 25% least, 25% lesser, 50% greater.

I'm not totally sure if this is statistically appropriate, particularly for slotless wondrous items (should it be 33%/33%/34%?), but it's what I decided on. Edit: In other words, that method may not be perfect, but I think it's "good enough".
