Because China (communist or otherwise) never committed any atrocities in the name of their national interests. Nope. Just us western devils.

*Ping!* (Little halo above my head, making with the big kitty-eyes.) Oh, of course. It's always the other guy. I got to the Opium Wars before I got to the Twentieth Century, then I had to take a long look at Silk Road politics as part of a study of the Black Death. And that was all before I was in Chile during the Pinochet era. 'Scuse me while I go find some Tums.

Here's why this is whole thread is a cluster:
First of all, the ban was a misunderstanding of the law.
Secondly, "the ban was initially blamed by conference organizers on a 2011 law authored by Congressman Frank Wolf, who has described the Chinese government as "fundamentally corrupt," and has pushed for limits to US ties with China over concerns about human rights abuses, espionage and cyber attacks."
So. The law, in essence, is actually meant to address concerns about an Orwellian government who will round you up and put you in a labor camp for going on fbook and saying "Hey! My government sucks butt!"
And yet,.....it's been totally misconstrued here in this thread as yet another horror enacted by the Machiavellian West against the poor people of China.
Wow.
That's why I say give up; you can't win.

Well, given some peoples' tendencies to criticize western countries and show them as tyrannical evils, Krensky's post makes perfect sense to me.
The western world is filled with narrow minded individuals, greedy leaders, and bloodthirsty countries willing to slaughter and depress entire populations to ensure the style of life their citizens expect.
They are also the most humane places in the world, and are causing the least suffering. Every single other alternative is worse.
It's easy to blame the top dogs for their shortcomings, and it's also correct to do so. But blinding ourselves to the fact that the current top dogs are the best we have (probably the best that history ever had, in fact) just leads to silliness.
For example, this thread. As Spanky said before me, this is a storm in a tea cup. A U.S politician was working to weaken relationships between his country and one of the most cruel governments in the world, and his intentions were misinterpreted. That's all that happened, and the situation has since been remedied. However, Yellowdingo has chosen to report about it rather than countless atrocities happening in China on a daily basis. That's a warped viewpoint, if you ask me.
