Does Protection from Evil give its bonus to Ghoul effects-ie Ghoul Fever and paralyze

Rules Questions

So I'm running RotRL and my PCs are out fighting the Ghouls in the Cornfields... This is also my first few months in Pathfinder (Rolemaster guy for about 20 years before) so spells are different etc... My cleric pulls out this spell... I briefly read it, well Ghouls are evil so yes it should work. I even gave them a 2nd saving throw for both Ghoul Fever and Paralyze. I'm now re-reading it and am thinking I totally missed the re-roll (should be only for mind control) My question is

1) Is Ghoul Fever and paralyze "effects" for the purposes of this spell and

2) Is paralyze considered "mind control" I'm leaning towards no, but wanted some consensus before I tell my PCs...

I ran a too powerful 6 Ghouls and 5 Ghoul cutthroats and a variant 1 Ghoul Corpulent.... They barely made it out, but basically they got a lot of 2nd saving throws that saved them from the paralyze then coupe de grace death... Still learning how to balance the game for my pcs...(too easy vs too hard...)

Thanks!

Ghoul fever and paralysis are caused by attacks of an evil creature. Victims get the bonus to their saves.

Protection from evil doesn't prevent paralysis, including hold person.

They get a +2 to their AC and +2 to saves vs evil creatures (which Ghouls are).

However, "mind control effects" are specifically spells like Dominate Person with the [Mind affecting (Compulsion)] descriptor, that specifically take command of the target, not just spells that exert a single command like Hold Person or sleep, as per this FAQ:

Quote:

Does protection from evil (good/law/etc.) work against all charm and compulsion effects? Or does it just work against charm and compulsion effects where the caster is able to exercise control over the target, such as charm person, command, and dominate person (and thus not effects like sleep or confusion, as the caster does not have ongoing influence or puppet-like control of the target)?

The latter interpretation is correct: protection from evil only works on charm and compulsion effects where the caster is able to exercise control over the target, such as command, charm person, and dominate person; it doesn't work on sleep or confusion.

On top of that, a Ghoul's paralysis is not a mind affecting effect at all anyway ("Paralysis works on the body") so it doubly doesn't count for the second save.

Elves are not made for front line combat, they said. You should roll an aasimar or human, they said.
