First PFS character

Pathfinder Society

Hey all. I just recently got into PFS, still have yet to play my first game since there isn't much going on in my area so I need to find online games. I made up a character and would just like someone to look it over to see if I missed anything or if there are any glaring mistakes.

Thanks for the help.

I dont see anything that jumps out as incorrect. If you want there are variant tiefling heritages that might have more favorable start bonuses for you (asura spawn is +dex/wis -int)
Pistol is listed as vs touch ac but remember thats only within the first range increment of your weapon
I thoroughly recommend all true pathfinders to support the grand lodge, but if you only picked the faction for the perception trait there is also seeker trait anyone can take
Wrist Sheathes are one of those items that you usually need to have the original source for in case questions arise as to what they can and can't be used for (to use anything non core you must be able to provide the original source)

One thing you might not be aware of, you're on the verge of being heavily encumbered. You calculate your gear plus weapons and armor and I calculate 66 lbs which is your max for medium encumbrance (which would give you a -3 ACP replacing your armor's -1)

Keep in mind that you should be able to provide the actual sources for your race/class/equipment, not just the PRD. For online its probably a bit more relaxed, but I know I don't know the archetypes well enough that I'd need to see it if I ran for you.

Thanks for the input Chris. I did look at the variant tiefling heritages, but just didn't know if it was worth using the feat for it.

I wasn't entirely sure what to pick for my faction, so yeah that I'll take a look at and see what other faction might fit him.

Eric, are there any suggestions for ways to help that encumbrance. I went and looked at my inventory, and I see what you mean about being close to a heavy load. I got rid of a few things, but I'm still in my medium load, unless I use an action to drop the backpack. I guess it depends on what adventures I go on (if I feel I need certain equipment).

Well, once you get prestige/fame, Muleback Cords are wonderful for weak characters (they give +8 str for determining carrying capacity, but they do take the shoulder slot, so no cloaks. :/)

In reference to the heritages, there is no feat required for them. If you have Blood of Fiends, you can just take the heritage. It is kind of like alternate racial traits, it substitutes things from the generic tiefling for a more specific background/heritage.

I think if you switch to the asura heritage you can get the same stats you had but with a 12 strength. There is also a trait that counts your strength as being higher for determining your carrying capacity.
Its pretty safe to only bring your overland (backpack/bedroll etc) travel items if you have reason to believe you will need them

Some thoughts I have:

Initial Build:

My experience with my Gunslinger (he's the big gun kind though) has been that a 14 WIS is plenty for a PFS scenario. I don't use enough grit to justify tying up the extra 5 points in WIS. I'd redistribute some of those points to STR because, well, guns and their paraphernalia can get rather heavy. There will also be times when you have to smack someone in the face the old fashioned way :)

Short term solutions:

The Muleback cords are something you might want to look into if you don't take the above suggestion (which would buy you an additional 25 pounds to play with) but the disadvantage is that they take up your shoulder slot which is often used up by a cloak of resistance. They are 1k though, so going just on fame it will take at least 5 adventures to rack up enough. A masterwork backpack will get you +1 to your effective STR for 50 GP.

is tere a limit on how many archtypes one can take. gonna play a rogue with hidden blade and scout archtypes to maximize my sneak attack. they don't overlap on the replacements so there shouldn't be an issue byut I am not sure

Oh, guess I was looking at that wrong. Seemed like I needed a feat to take the other heritage choices.

Thanks for the input Michael. I'll look at switching a few things around. Like I said, this is my first character for this and still haven't played him yet. So I probably have some time to move some stuff around.

As long as they don't replace the same abilities, it's OK.

Did some retinkering and I think I got him. Thanks again for all the input. Hopefully I can find a game to try him out in shortly.

What race?

If you could find a race that gives Dex and Wis bonuses and loses Cha an applying them to the following stat spread, it'd be 20 point buy. Maybe one of those variant tieflings?

Str: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 10
Wis: 14
Cha: 10

Yep, says Asura Tiefling on the sheet.

Figured as much; can't see the sheet from work (but I can see the Paizo Forums! :3)

I see several minor issues :
1) Asura thiefling change the +2 bonus on bluff & stealth with a +2 bonus on Appraise and Knowledge(local) well if the entry for them at d20pfsrd is correct. But seeing as you correctly exchanged the Darkness SLA for the Hideous Laughter SLA, I guess the alternate skills are correct as well.
2) If I can still count correctly, you have 6 ranks in skills, namely acrobatics, craft(alchemy), knowledge(local), perception, stealth and survival. You get 4 ranks from gunslinger & 1 from favored class bonus. Where did you get the 6th from?
3) Similar problem with languages. You have 3 languages. You start with common & abyssal/infernal as a thiefling. So where does Gnome come from?
4) I counted up all your equipment. If I got it right, your total equipment currently weighs in at 59,5 lbs. Which would put you at a medium load.
Ofcourse if you drop your backpack at the start of combat this will be less of an issue, but the penalties due to encumbrance [max dex +3 / armor check penalty -3 / speed of 20 / ...] might be relevant in other situations.
5) Does your character wear clothing beneath the studded leather? Because I see no mention of a set of clothing. Every character starts with a free outfit of their choice worth 10 GP or less, as can be found at the top of this page.
If you search for clothing on that same page, you will find their costs, descriptions and weights. And unless this thread gets invalidated, the outfit counts towards encumbrance.

I assume you had 12 int at some point during the building of your character (probably from the regular thiefling's +2 on INT?) and forgot to check skills/languages after changing it to 10. This would account for issues 2 & 3.

I hope I have been of assistance and welcome to PFS. :)
