Question on Luck Domain spells

Rules Questions

Playing a cleric of Desna with the Luck domain and I was just wondering if I can use Bit of Luck on myself?

Sure, if you're a willing creature.

Liberty's Edge

You can, but will get limited use out of it, since it consumes your Std action.

It says 'for the next round' for duration. As GM, I would rule it always gives you one round's worth of benefits - which would mean until the end of the next turn of the caster. But another GM might say, "Well you've used it, and that ended your turn, so it's gone."

Ah ok. So it will be in a limited use then. Thanks.

Liberty's Edge

Effects with 1 round duration end at the start of the originating chatacter's turn. Using bit o luck results in the effect ending at the start of the cleric's next turn. He gets no benefit on attacks in the following turn. He gets benefits for saves and other d20 rolls that might take place before the start of his next turn.

The best offensive use for bit o luck is to put it on a character who gets multiple attacks in his turn: archers with above BAB attacks, two weapon fighters, or in some circumstances, a character without extra attacks who is effective. It does nothing for the attacks of the acting cleric.

Disclaimer: I play a character with luck domain.

Well I actually wasn't thinking of combat (i've come to terms about how useless my halfling cleric will be in a fight :P) I'm thinking about maybe those times with skill checks if I can use bit of luck on myself and then roll for the skill.

This is the first time I am making/playing a cleric so I'm still trying to figure it out and iron out the kinks.

Liberty's Edge

If the skill check is a move action or less, you're good.

The Luck domain power does not actually say that it is a 1 round duration, it says "for the NEXT round" (caps mine). This would seem to indicate the activating cleric can use it for combat. As a DM I would rule that the words "next round" indicate the affected character's next round of action. I also believe that this is the reason for the different wording in the first place. There are lots of powers that give you a bonus "for one round" but this power specifically avoids that more common verbiage.

Besides, think about the intent and spirit of the power, not just the wording. It does not make much sense to rule that a cletic with the power to make people lucky just by touching them can only do so for everyone else. And how broke is it really to standard action to re-roll dice for 1 round? That's losing an entire round of combat to make another round hit more... the odds are against that being useful most of the time.

Silver Crusade

I also play a Pathfinder PFS Cleric with the Luck domain. Bit Of Luck is both very limited and totally awesome. It is a Standard Action, and it runs out at the START of your next turn, so you can NEVER use it to help your own standard action. This ability is awesome, though, and has several main uses:

1. Use it on an ally who is about to do something difficult or dangerous. For example, if your party faces a flying foe that only the archer can hit, use Bit Of Luck on the archer. I will generally say to the archer, "Magda suggests you delay initiative until after her turn" :-)

2. If you are a Reach Cleric it's also great to occasionally use on yourself. It's especially good when you are about to do something difficult and dangerous. Start your turn with Bit of Luck (no reason to wait ...), then Move and use Acrobatics to tumble past multiple foes. You roll each Acrobatics check twice. Then end your turn where the foes will be tempted to rush you. If you must make any saving throws you roll twice. If the foes DO rush you then you roll each AoO twice and take the best roll. All your AoOs will probably hit. This is very situational, but it's worked for me quite a few times.
