Angel Wings feat & Elemental Movement Bloodline Power

Rules Questions

Does the 30' Fly speed granted to an Aasimar by the Angel Wings feet count as base speed for the purposes of the Fire Elemental bloodline Elemental Movement power?

i.e. Would a 15th LevelAasimar Fire Elemental Sorcerer with the Angel Wings feat have a fly speed of 30' or 60'?

(And for a relative newby what IS the definiton of "base speed" anyway, I couldn't find one in the core rulebook).

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Base speed is your land speed.

The feat grants you a fly speed, base speed of 30 with average manueverability. The fire bloodline grants a bonus to base speeds. This means every movement type that the character has would be increased by 30. The character in question would have a 60 foot movement in both land speed and flight speed. If the character had a stated swim speed or burrow speed those would be increased as well. If a creature doesn't have a stated movement amount they typically are a portion/function of land speed (see climb or swim skills).

Not sure if it is detailed in any great length, but a base speed essentially is the amount granted/stated by any ability without modification or bonuses. It would be important if an ability or item referred to "base speed" which would not count things like a magic item or spell that granted a circumstance or enhancement bonus to a movement type.

Incorrect, it is the speed listed for any movement type the creature has. It is not limited to "land speed" by any means.

I stand corrected, then.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have seen an argument that because the fly speed comes from a feat in this case it isn't an intrinsic or "base" speed so the Elemental Movement power wouldn't apply. Any thoughts/comments on that aspect?

Feats are certainly intrinsic. Your wings are a part of you, aren't they? How would you ever lose them without having them be ripped off?

A base speed is a mechanical reference for the game. It is what it is regardless of how it is obtained. The only catch I can think of is the fly skill which I believe has some requirements to be obtained as a "class skill" and wouldn't be available to a fighter who has a cloak that grants flying 3x a day or some such. By stating it adds to the base speed, it essentially will stack with all other modifier types with no issue (unlike an enhancement, circumstance or trait bonus which can be gained numerous ways).

:) I'd certainly tend to agree with that.

The argument was being made from a game balance perspective in that it makes the Fire Elemental movement bonus more powerful than the bonuses for the other elemental bloodline types.

In essence the Fire bonus can affect multiple movement types, whilst the other three can only affect a specific type.

I'd like that argument to be wrong (self interest naturally :)), but I can see the logic of it.

Balance is unfortunately very subjective. The ability grants a bonus to movement, but doesn't grant any additional movement types. The other lines grant movement types. Which is better? It depends on the character/build.

Beastform into a creature with pounce and multiple natural attacks, most don't have anything more than land speed. Air granting a fly speed would be significantly better for that shape than +30 feet. The designers already considered "balance" when they made the bloodlines, it is what it is because they were "okay" with it.

Liberty's Edge

bump, how would this and the bloodrager power stack with haste and the bloodrager fast movement?
