Question about Irabeth and Vhane [Spoiler?]

Wrath of the Righteous

I had a questions regarding the history of these NPCs.

Spoiler:

Do we have any information regarding the nature of the Irabeth's discovery of the treachery of Staunton Vhane with regards to the initial attack on the Wardstone? What was the nature of the evidence? What transpired once the evidence was made public?

If the official story is not fleshed out, I'd appreciate some ideas on the subject.

Thank you

We haven't spelled out what it was that allowed the good NPC to figure out what the bad NPC was up to in print. My preference:

Spoiler:
Anevia, during a scouting mission, found some evidence that Staunton was a bad guy, and presented it to Irabeth. Irabeth knew that the evidence was circumstantial and that if she went public with it that Staunton would be able to finagle things to deflect the accusation which would then place Anevia in danger, so instead she and Anevia confronted him in person to give him the benefit of the doubt. Staunton overreacted, assuming Irabeth knew more than she was implying, and instead of trying to fast talk his way out tried to kill Irabeth quick so he could make it look like an accident... but of course, Irabeth is a bad-ass and thus Staunton's attempt failed and then they got in a big fight and when Staunton realized he was in trouble, he conjured his wasp and flew away.

Why didn't Irabeth just use Detect Evil and call it a day?

I imagine since the crusade has been accepting more and more characters of dubious character, there are quite a few evil folks working for the crusades against the forces of the worldwound. Being evil doesn't make you a traitor it could just mean your selfish, drawn to and abusive of power but certainly not a traitor to all, nor an ally of deskari or baphomet - that whole other evil. She could use detect evil, all that proves is that vhane is most likely of dubious character, no better than her other circumstantial evidence really.

Because he uses a spell to conceal his alignment. In fact, I believe Antipaladins have it as a 1st level spell and seeing that Vhane was over 4th level? You can be sure he used it.

This is correct.
