Another GM mentioned to me an option for GM credit I was not aware of:
"Instead of taking the gold for the tiers in the adventure listed, you can choose to take 500gp and apply it to a first level character".
The idea was if I GM'd a tier 5-9 for credit, but didn't want to apply tier 5-9 credit to a tier 5-9 character (because I prefer to play those characters more), I could apply it as a generic 500gp credit to a first level character (which is especially useful because there is a lot of demand for 5-9 GMs in my area, and I have limited opportunities to get DM credits, or play opportunities, on my low level PCs)
Is this rule legitimate? I couldn't find it in the PFS guide or FAQ and was wondering if it was real or imagined.
Thanks.

It sounds like someone mixing the GM credit rules and the playing a non-1st level pregen rules to be honest. I do not believe this rule is actually real at this time.

that makes more sense - I recall the pregen rule.
Well, it might be a cool rule to add at some future point for GM'ing. I like to get GM credit for low level PCs, but in my area the demand is for high level games. Luckily I talked the coordinator into letting me DM Frostfur captives this month...

I'd agree that it would be nice to be able to apply GM credit to a new first level character. I'd far prefer that than applying a 5-9 or 7-11 to a character in most cases (I've done it, but I am now thinking that I'd rather play my characters once they get 3rd or 4th level).
Getting the characters out of 1st (and 2nd) level is the primary goal I have, because I much prefer playing characters once they have gotten out of the "greenhorn" levels. It was fun playing a couple-three character up through 1st & 2nd, but I've gotten over it now ;)
The same would be nice for modules (drop to 1398gp when assigning to a 1st level).
For sure I would use this to create a broader cast of characters, enabling me, as a GM, to become familiar with a broader selection of character classes, and rules.

Page 37 of the Guide to Organized Play, Gamemaster Rewards heading explains how to apply chronicles for scenarios GM'd. I'm not seeing the option to give the chronicle to a level 1 character, and even in the pregen case you can only do that for a character's first chronicle.
The subtier for which a GM’s character receives credit depends on the character’s level. If a GM with a 1st-level rogue runs a Tier 1–5 scenario using Subtier 1–2, she takes a Subtier 1–2 Chronicle sheet for her 1st-level rogue. If she instead runs a Tier 1–5 scenario using Subtier 4–5,
she still takes a Subtier 1–2 Chronicle sheet, as her PC clearly falls within the lower subtier. If the GM with a low-level character runs any higher tier scenarios that don’t include a subtier for her 1st-level rogue, she takes the lowest subtier Chronicle sheet from that scenario and holds it for her PC. Then, once her PC achieves the appropriate level for that Chronicle sheet, it is immediately applied. For example, if a GM with a 1st-level rogue runs a Tier 5–9 scenario, she would take a Subtier 5–6 Chronicle sheet (the lowest subtier for that tier) for running the scenario and set it aside. Once her rogue reaches 5th level, she can immediately apply the Chronicle sheet to her character. This means that GMs’ characters can potentially level up in bursts.

Not exactly. That used to be the case:
If you play a non-1st-level pregenerated character, you may apply credit from the pregenerated character to one of your 1st-level characters, with the gp gained reduced to 1,398 gp (or 699 gp for slow advancement
track characters). If you play a non-1st-level pregenerated character, you may apply the credit to your character as soon as she reaches the level of the pregenerated character played.
You have two options.
1) Reduce to 1398gp, and apply to a 1st-level character
2) Hold until assigned character is the level of the pregen.

They removed that stipulation in Season 5. You can apply a chronicle earned with a non-1st level pregen to a level 1 character regardless if they are brand new or not.
You may also opt instead to apply the
Chronicle sheets earned with a non-
1st-level pregenerated character to a
1st-level character with the amount
of gp gained reduced to 500 gp (or
250 gp for characters using the slow
advancement track).
EDIT: My quote is for scenarios and Silbeg's is how to handle modules, but both changed this tidbit.
