Hi Everyone
My group is on the verge of entering Whitethrone. This obviously means two important big battles are in the near future (Logrivich and Nazhena)
Now I recently did a side track portion where the PCs rescued some Awakened animals who had created a pocket of summer from the Cold Sisters.
However the final witch they fought was a big anticlimax due to two wizards with auto-hitting magic missiles and a smiting paladin with a bow (and low hp / short range spells for the witch)
This is the last thing I want to happen in the two main fights in the capital.
My group has two paladins one with 18 cha and another 20, so their smites are horrible for the enemies. There are also 2 wizards (who now have several fire spells), a very strong viking and a druid (who also has some fire but not much).
I anticipate some disappointing boss fights coming up.
My question is how much advance prep is reasonable for the bad guys. My main ideas are potions of resist elements and shield. I believe this is reasonable for Nazhena but I am not certain about the dragon.
For background the PCs have let both Radosek, Mierul and the Doppleganger (as well as the sylph) go (with the doppleganger temporarily in charge of the tower). I believe there is enough intel their to be passed onto Nazhena (without even factoring in Whitethrone activities). Another PC has also just set someone on fire in the Fishcamps.
But would the dragon be receiving any of this info?
I want to make the encounters memorable but I do not want my players to think that I have deliberately meta-gamed against them and screwed them over.
> As an aside what do people think are the best outcomes for the various freed NPCs. What I was thinking:
Doppleganger - was made temporary guardian of the tower. Unlikely to leave. May be hunted down by White Witches at a later date?
Mierul - I was planning on having her report back to Whitethrone and perhaps including her in one of the boss fights (or clock tower somewhere).
Radosek - My plan was for the PCs to stumble across a severely tortured dying Radosek in the streets of Whitethrone. He had 'failed' Nazhena you see.
Sylph - I'm not sure where she would go after the tower. I'm thinking it is unlikely she would go to Whitethrone. If she did I would probably have her punished there as well.
I would quite like to give an element of recurrence without making my PCs be forced to kill all prisoners on the spot
Thanks for any help!
