I have a player that wants to do a cleric/rogue.
When asked for advice I recommended half elf for race and deception and travel for domains.
Its 4th level with a 20 point buy.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
how much rogue and how much cleric do they want?
I had a back up character of 3 cleric of Besmara (Deception, Tactics) and the rest rogue. Use a Boarding Pike of Repelling to get flanks from 20 ft away.
It was a rogue with a cleric dip... so it kinda depends on how much of each they want.

What does he want from Rogue?
My suggestion would be to take a serious look at an Inquisitor. They get almost as many skill points as a rogue and more than you will get with a cleric/rogue. Also a lot of their spells will be very useful for someone trying to use stealth and guile. With both Invisibility and knock just to name a few you will be a much better “Thief” then any rogue could hope to be.
Indeed, whatever he wants from Rogue, there is a class that does it better.
Inquisitor is perfect for the Cleric/Rogue feel, and without the hindrance of Rogue levels, and multiclassing woes.

Agree with BBT. However if the character must play a cleric / rogue, I would suggest a 1 level dip for the domain powers, spell list access for spspell trigger magic items, and armor proficiency. Anything else is just making the character fall behind.
3 levels of cleric and the deception domain gets you second level spells... and with it mirror image. In that case, I would say you can justify more than one level of cleric.
+1 for inquisitor, it's really strong.
Gray Gardener PrC if you have your heart set on Sneak Attack Dice, otherwise I agree with Inquisitor, only downside is you don't get those B-E-A-Utiful domain spells (mirror image). But you still get uh Copycat, which is a Move Action, right?
Copycat sucks because it is a SINGLE image... so you spend a move (or standard ,can't remember) to basically negate one attack... meh.
I don't know, I think it's a nice use of a move action. Much of the time, my trickery domain cleric is standing there anyway.
Heretic Inquisitor is good choice.
I have a sneak cleric concept i've been toying with. It's a straight cleric with the Trickery and Travel domains.
High Int for the skills.
He Cleric spells to make up for not being a rogue.
I havent played it, but I bet it it could work.
We built rogue 3/cleric 1
Race is half elf.
We used deception and exploration domains
He likes sneak attack damage so we went with knife fighter @ 1st level.
and rake's smile @ 3rd.
feats are combat expertise and improved feint.
We went with an agile breast plate and buckler
Weapons are Masterwork kukri and Masterwork shortbow.
The party make up thus far is a Magus, Zen Archer, Inquisitor, Conjuration Wizard(me), and the Rogue,Cleric.
I've actually DMed for the last 10 years and one of my players finally wants to step up and run.

Why is he wanting to add Rogue to the Cleric? What is his final goal for that character. And What are his current Cleric Domains?
Yes.
I never got the answer as to what he wanted from Rogue, or Cleric for that matter.
Is this a desire simply to see the combo in action, and nothing else?
I was actually toying with the idea of a Cleric as a rogue/party face in another thread, and Anon helped me quite a bit with that, until I decided that I wanted to try and make a MT of Asmodeus. Not as bad as Rogue but close.
I could even see a Cleric/Bard, as it would be a better face than a Cleric/Rogue could ever be.
Cleric/rogue sounds like a lot of fun, but it could really use a PrC like the Arcane Trickster. Or maybe an Inquisitor archetype that replaced Teamwork Feats with sneak attack and maybe Solo Tactics with Trapfinding.
Inquisitor has a spell that gives them Trapfinding, and there are better classes than Rogue that gain it, and some are even better at it.
The Trap business is no where near a Rogue exclusive thing.
Wouldn't the (vivisectionist) alchemist work reasonably well mechanically for a rogue/cleric? You can change your potions to holy relics that must be imbued beforehand. Variant potions can be very cool :) .
Hell, Trapper Ranger would work well.
The domains we went with were deception and exploration.
The guy playing the character doesn't own the books or have reliable access tot he internet.
He is also started playing back in the first printings of Greyhawk so it fits well with what he knows and what he described as a blessed thief.
I do like the Grey Gardner PrC. I will show it to him before we play Sunday evening.
