In this case I am not talking about the intelligent +5 Longsword of fiery doom, but more items such as the tent from Harry Potter that gets set up and is much larger on the inside, complete with fireplace and beds.
For myself I will say that one item that was immensely enjoyable and supported RP was the "Pillow of Rest". This pillow was made of the best and most comfortable materials around. Its effects were that over the course of the night this pillow muffled loud noises, worked as if the character received a thorough neck massage, took care of any trimmings of facial hair the character had consciously thought about and decided upon during the evening, and most importantly; allowed the character to wake up with any form of facial hair in perfect condition (imagine the glamor shots of female movie stars waking up in 1950's movies)
So, what items have you found/created that just did that "little extra" for you?

"Dust Of Dryness"
Simply put you can absorb 100 gallons if liquid instantly. As long as the liquid is simply water (and not acid, lava, etc like was openly abused in 3.5 by my players). 100 gallons is quite alot - players who use it tend to use the aforementioned "pebble" left behind as a sling bullet and the effect of having 100 gallons explode in your face as a result can be nasty. No saving throw and you can be certain they're not left standing where they last got hit by it that's for sure (I treat it as a bull rush attempt with a hefty bonus based on volume of water plus some lethal/non lethal damage based on the occasion)
"Immovable Rod"
Another classic - once activated it is incredibly difficult to move, making it the quintessential doorstop or ever handy ledge/platform where there is none. My players love these things, often acquiring two at a time. One in each hand they "climb" into the sky by activating/deactivating them without ever letting go, on other occasions they leave it stuck in midair and if retreating from a huge monster (let's assume a purple worm) that chases them they will rush past the rod luring the enemy into the almost immovable dot in space. Adding to that they love to affix daggers, swords and spears to it for such an occasion - where monsters gave been lured to it gave either been delayed trying to get around it or spend time destroying it, or better yet try to get away from it if they ran straight into it and/or swallowed it.

Hybridization Funnel for mine.
This item is so fun and has such a wide use of applications, and the idea of experimenting with it and playing around with different chemicals seems like so much fun.
"So what do you get when you try to mix alchemist fire with a thunderstone?

BOOM!
The answer is an unexpected explosion. Now for trial #237..."

Aura faint transmutation; CL 2nd
Slot neck; Price 900 gp; Weight 2 lbs. This mummified elf hand hangs by a golden chain around a character's neck (taking up space as a magic necklace would). It allows the wearer to utilize the spell mage hand at will.
Of course, it was more useful before Pathfinder allowed cantrips to be used continuously anyway, and before I found out that Mage Hand can't be used on magic items :(
