Can we have player generated content like this?

A new kickstarter, which sounds extremely similar to PFO, has begun, but what caught my eye is that the developers are offering tools for the players to create content that goes into the MMO...

"NeoJac will be providing the means for players to provide direct game content such as 3D models for use through collaboration with Unity 3D. Player content provided in this manner will be reviewed by the community (peer review) for acceptance. NeoJac will continue to provide assets for the game world as well."

so why can't we do this as well?

Anyone else watch the video?

"For the first time ever, players are actively part of the development of the game, through a new system we call crowd game design."

The term our community crowdforged sound WAY better. ;)

That strikes me as being suspiciously like "We're doing unpaid outsourcing of art assets."

The proof, however, is in the pudding.

Shroud of the Avatar has already released a Unity license (not certain of requirements) for Kickstarters to begin creating content. It is a great idea, but will keep the developers busy proofing the submissions and converting them to something useable within their proprietary game code.

Still, it is a pretty forward thinking set-up. Let's see if it works.
