Fire Forged / Ice Forged Steel and Ranged Weapon (firearm)

Do these materials work with ranged weapons? Fluff wise I find it kind of strange to hold a firearm (loaded or unloaded) into a camp-fire, but I could not find anything against it.

Much like how Mithral firearms do not overcome DR/silver, and Elysian Bronze firearms do not harm Magical Beasts, it is the ammunition you will have to hold over the fire to achieve the desired effect.

As far as I understand, if you give a bow the flaming property as a magic item, you get the bonus dice from it on hit. And fire forged steel gives the weapon a property similar to flaming.

The reason that Flaming guns affect the ammunition is that it is a magical property. Fire and Frost forged steel is a material, not a magical property, and therefore will not transfer any abilities to the ammunition.

I realize that I'm resurrecting an old thread, but if the ammunition is also Fire Forged / Ice Forged, I would argue that the ammunition can gain the bonuses.

I'm not sure that makes for a very efficient use or resources, but I think it would work.
