damage resistance

Rules Questions

I've confused myself looking at rulings and posts, and would like a direct answer, please.

If a creature had dr/adamantine, or dr/slashing, would fire damage from a bomb be negated or deal full damage?

thanks.

Energy damage is unaffected by DR regardless of its source. A bomb does full damage against a creature with DR as it is fire damage. It must have fire resistance to reduce the damage taken from a bomb or other energy damage.

There is Damage Resistance, and there is Energy Resistance.

Damage Resistance applies to physical trauma, such as that from a weapon, a fall, or falling debris.

Energy Resistance applies to elemental damage, such as that from an acid/cold/fire/electricity/positive/negative source.

I've never thought DR applies to falls, certainly not DR/-. Do people think DR/<something> is different?

Why wouldn't DR apply to falling damage? Remember, DR itself is an abstraction applied to another abstraction (hit points). It can work in many ways, from not have the right parts to be affected properly by some weapons (skeletons and their DR/bludgeoning), to having flesh which regenerates with lightning speed from injury (werewolves and their DR/silver), maybe their physical essence that can't be fully affected except by diametrically opposed energies (angels and their DR/evil), or just an ultra-hard hide that shrugs aside some punishment (dragons and their DR/magic). Regardless, the end result is the same in how the rules work on what it blocks and what overcomes it.

Why do you think not?
