You may have read some of my stuff in other threads I am doing research to have a Half Orc paladin with the beast rider feat out of the advanced race guide for PFS. The mount I am doing research on is the Pteranodon.
I may have a problem with fighting with a lance and close combat. I am thinking of using quick draw so I can drop the lance and use a nodachi and fight in one spot. Thinking there are reasons I need not bring up why I am not charging when I don't provoke because of ride by attack, and I may want to stay put.
If I'm over deep water or the like I have a problem with my lance. What I am facing might have an awful lot of reach. I am thinking while the mount is flying what if I attach a ten foot cord from the mount to the lance. So, when I drop it it doesn't fall far. What would be the rules be on that? I'm talking I am not five foot stepping all the time. The idea is to drop the lance and quick draw the nodachi and fight. That is my combination of handling reach weapons and long fights. I don't use the reach weapon all the time.

It's not a sensible idea.
If I was a GM with a player who tried this, I would have the mount make a DC 10 Reflex save each time he stopped or changed direction to see if the cord and lance get tangled in his wings. Also, if the mount has to navigate other obstacles where the cord and lance could catch, the save would be more severe.

In another thread I have some ideas that were brought up for increasing the fly skill of the pteranodon. This is for PFS, I would have to have the feat to open up the belt slot in the animal archive for the heavy load belt. That is how I plan on having my Mount carry me and all my gear. Possibly, when I'm ninth level, the mount might need a two or three or higher in order to pass The DC 15 hover check. I don't remember when I get the fourth feat but the first three feats For my mount are skill focus fly, wing over, and a feat that opens a belt slot for my mount in the animal archive. The fourth feat will be acrobatics.
