Can Alchemists gain the benefits of Metamagic feats? Alchemists as "casters" kind of fall into a weird area that no other spellcaster does. They can't get crafting feats, but they can brew potions. They can make use of wands, but not scrolls.
Then the natural extension of this question is: If so, can Alchemists make use of Metamagic Rods?

I think the "rule" is no, because they are not spell casters. But I don't think "Meta-Extracts" feats would be game breaking or flavor crippling (new term! Just made it up). Using metamagic rods would be harder to justify (maybe swizzle sticks?).
Just make sure the rods are hollow, and drink the extract with it like a straw :)

The next question is: Alchemist's extracts are "spells in potion form" and are cast by "drinking them like a potion". Would discoveries like Extend Potion and traits like Accelerated Drinker (drink potions as a Move Action if you begin the turn with them in hand) apply to Extracts?
Since the wording on Extracts suggests they're treated as Potions.

RAW the answer is now. RAI - I believe it would be allowed. Why? Because the alternate 'words of power' system allows an alchemist to apply meta words to his extracts.
Alchemist: An alchemist begins play knowing a number of 1st-level effect or meta words equal to 2 + the alchemist's Intelligence modifier. Whenever he gains another level of alchemist, he adds one new effect or meta word to his formula book. He may learn new words as normal, adding them to his formula book for the same time and cost as it would take to add a spell of the same level.
