Plague zombie help

I have encountered a plague zombie and did not defeat it. One of the powers for plague zombie is "if undefeated, banish the plague zombie and each character at this location must succeed at a constitution or fortitude 6 check or be dealt 1d4 acid damage".
Does this damage take effect after combat damage or replace combat damage ?

It happens after combat damage and is in addition to and separate from it (i.e. you couldn't play a card to reduce them both at the same time.)

It is a different damage. So technically, you could say Reveal an armor to remove/reduce the combat damage and then Discard that armor to negate the Acid damage.
