Mythic Augment Summoning nerfing DR?

So, I was looking at the Mythic Augment Summoning feat, and noticed the wording:

Quote:

Additionally, if the creature

summoned has damage reduction, its
damage reduction becomes
DR/epic.

So, would that mean that if a summoned creature had DR/-, it would be nerfed to DR/Epic? Even worse, in a game where mythic monsters are common, DR/Epic may not be as big of deal as DR/(rare substance). On the other hand, if the creature you summoned previously had, say, DR/Cold Iron (or some other substance), that may be more effective against a large portion of mythic monsters...

which would mean that mythic augment summoning would actually nerf the creatures being summoned.

I think the RAI should be something like
"Additionally, if the creature summoned has damage reduction, Epic is added to the qualities needed to bypass its damage reduction."
So for example, if the summoned creature had DR/wood, the augmented version would have DR/wood and epic. DR/- would remain DR/-.

Was this just an oversight?

I'm ptetty sure mythic won't increase the availability of +6 weapons but I may be wrong.

Dark Archive

However any creature with DR/Epic's natural attacks count as epic for bypassing damage reduction (which is most mythic monks, summons from that spell, mythic characters with natural weapons).

I would consider adding Epic to the qualities required to bypass the DR as otherwise you would find DR/Epic quite lacking

It doesn't increase the availability of weapons with a +6 enhancement bonus, but there is the matter of this line:

"DR/Epic: A type of damage reduction, DR/epic can be overcome only by a weapon with an enhancement bonus of +6 or greater (Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 299). Weapons with special abilities also count as epic for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction if the total bonus value of all of their abilities (including the enhancement bonus) is +6 or greater."

That's far more common than a +6 enhancement bonus.

So a +1 weapon with +5 abilities bypasses Epic DR.

yes

Also, natural weapons of anything with DR/Epic automatically bypass epic damage reduction. In a mythic game, most monsters will have DR/Epic, so they will be bypassing the summoned creatures DR. This isn't a big deal for NPC summoners, since PCs don't normally use natural weapons, but if every monster can bypass epic damage reduction, then it isn't much of a boost for the player's summoned creatures to have. Especially not if it negates another form of damage reduction.
