NPC ideas to help after defeat at the hands of Xanesha

Rise of the Runelords

My party just lost one of their members and suffered a pretty horrible defeat at the hands of Xanesha. The current lineup is:

A half-elf arcane trickster
A human cleric of Gozreh
A half-orc fighter (weapon master)
Shalelu as a fighter/ranger NPC

I also ran a human mad dog barbarian NPC with a raptor pet, but once he was charmed by Xanesha and murdered the only remaining original party member (an elf beast master who re-rolled fighter), he was pretty much kicked out of the party.

Due to the backstory of Shalelu and the beast master both being from Crying Leaf I had always planned to rope in some of the Second Darkness AP content and figured this was the perfect time to do it. So I’m having the party leave Magnimar and head North to Crying Leaf to run Armageddon Echo. I still feel like they might be a tad underpowered, so I was looking for suggestions for another NPC to join up along the way.

No rangers or barbs because we just had a stint with those classes. And no paladins because they would just be a pain to RP with this group. Also no pet classes.

I was thinking possibly a bard or dragon disciple/sorc type. Or a monk, but I’m not too familiar with the class. Maybe a druid? I’ve always wanted to play a ninja as well. Maybe a drow ninja? Hahaha.

Suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Are you going back to the RotRL plot after?
One option might be someone bound to join the Black Arrows. Ninja might work.

But four characters should be fine.

I was planning on returning to RotRL afterwards, but I guess I'll leave it up to whatever the players decide.

Four characters have been struggling so far. I'm running the anniversary edition and every PC has died at least once. I like the Black Arrow idea. I asked them what they feel would round out the party and they said a solid arcane force, so I've been looking at Sorcerer a bit more.

I'm really tempted to make a Drow sorcerer turned good. I'm not sure if I'd be shunned or not. Should I go there? :P

Don't go there, just my opinion. As a DM you are entitled to doing whatever you want with setting information and the , but from what I read of Second Darkness and on the post the designers have said that a Good Drow is something that is not or should not be in Golarion. Also it has a very strong Drizzt vibe (if you know what that means). However, a Neutral Drow may not be out of the question, and if your party is good aligned or good aligned-ish then they may be able to gain the distinction of being one of the few people in Golarion to convert a Drow to a good alignment. just my opinion however, as DM you are free to do what you wish with lore and stuff.

I suggest you take a look at the Monk. I'm DMing the anniversary edition and their having a tough time with five people. The only one who has yet to go down is the monk. If you want archer I love the Zen archer build.
