Class Ability Level Determined By Class Level?

Rules Questions

I know that somewhere in FAQ or in actual book text, Paizo has stated that your class abilities are determined by your levels in that class and not by your levels in general.

I know this is the case even if the ability does not specifically say, for instance, "barbarian level", "cleric level", etc...

Could someone point me to that language.

Such effects are always based on the total number of levels or Hit Dice a character possesses, not just those from one class. The exception to this is class abilities, most of which are based on the total number of class levels that a character possesses of that particular class.
