Dwarven Cleric

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'm seeking some inspiration for a new character.

Please post ideas for Dwarven Clerics at about 5th level. An archetype is required, but it can be from any source (including 3rd party as long as they are on d20pfsrd.com)

I just happen to have made this Dwarven Forgemaster Cleric of Torag for a PbP. Check the profile for her stats.

There are a lot of neat concepts for a dwarven cleric:

- The rough wilderness guy. Take the animal domain (or one of the sub domains) for an animal companion and play him similar to a druid but more dwarflike.

- The forgemaster. A divine tinker building stuff in the name of the allfather. And besides tinkering, if something pisses him off he takes his trusted warhammer and shows them the true meaning of dwarven steel. A no-nonsense guy but good to have around when something his the fan.

- The "less talk - more fight" dwarf. A crusader cleric of gorum. Always looking for a fight. Best with guys who have no honor and use dishonorable stuff like poison.

an another one

- The drunken instructor. Take the cloistered cleric and Cayden Cailean as deity. Play him a little like a bard but less on the charismatic side but on the intellectual side. Skillmonkey with full casting. And if he takes the travel domain this offsets the slow base speed.

This is the Dwarven Cleric run by someone in our group and he has been great - there's just one thing; he's insane. The backstory is pretty great, but the gist of the character is a two level dip into the Wild Rager Barbarian archetype before going straight Theologian with the Madness Domain.

He deals truly massive melee damage for a character at that level when he chooses to Rage and enter into combat, the rest of the time he makes use of one of the best buffs/debuffs in the game in Visions of Madness and a very potent Confusion aura. He also has some great high DC save or suck spells and some very useful skills (Perception, Survival, Sense Motive).

If you're interested in the character, just let me know.

Are you looking for RP ideas or builds?

RP-wise I think the next cleric I'd like to play is one who's lost his faith in the goodness of the world. He'd be a drunk and a womanizer, constantly carrying on a muttered conversation with his deity about the ugliness all around him.

Be a Merciful Healer Dwarven Cleric that has no deity and a 16 CHA. (Dump INT) and just focus on being the ultimate healbot. If you dump INT to an 8, you can have a 16CHA, 16WIS, 12CON 8INT and 10 everything else. Take Proficiency with Heavy Armor and tower shields and just channel all day long (with extra channel you should have about 8/day until you get a CHA buff item).

Be a Hospitaler Paladin who insists that he is a Cleric of Angradd instead of a Paladin. You get channel as a 2nd level cleric in your own pool separate from channel energy, and Rock the full plate full bab longsword style paladin that doesn't suck in melee as much.

Be a Necromacer type Cleric of Pharasma (Choose favorite archetype)Choose Healing and Death domains, and Party as a "Celebration of the Life you are living" each day to regain spells (I hear that it is a legitimate way to regain spells).

Forgemaster is really good. Main downside is the horrific waste of domain powers and spell slots that is the Artifice domain. But the other class features easily make up for that, if you like buffing and magic item crafting at all.

If you don't like that stuff, I'd just not use an archetype. Pure cleric is very strong.
