Newb XP Calculation Question

Rules Questions

My friends and I are on our first pathfinder module and we are slightly confused as to how XP works.

The encounter gives an amount of XP, as well as that the monsters have XP attached to them.
Do we add the encounter XP to the creature XP for the ones we kill, and then divide between players?

If not how does this work?

Thanks.

Generally speaking the encounter XP is the sum of all of the individual creature XP amounts. This will not always be the case: if the encounter has some specific modification that makes it objectively harder for the PCs (but not the monsters), it might be worth more XP (and I'm really struggling to come up with an example of this, but something like an encounter with devils that takes place inside a natural area of supernatural darkness would be on the right track). Most encounter scenarios don't favour the enemies like this.

Now, if you'll forgive that lengthy preamble, the answer to the question posed is: share the encounter XP between the party.
