Halfling Hedge Witch Goat Herder

Advice

The idea is for a support/healing hedge witch with a goat herding background. I figure the healing part comes from tending to the goats ailments. The familiar could be a goat or a sheep dog. I would love to be able to ride the familiar if possible. I'm going for a kind of crazy guy who talks to his goat/dog. I am thinking of having the habit of riding the familiar and herding the other party members like goats, staying at the back of the party, riding left and right, occasional yelps of "Heeyah, Suey". So I guess I need any advice you may have on this concept.

Are you sure you want a witch? I could see a halfling summoner with an increasingly monstrous goat being pretty amusing. Start to give it bigger horns, breath weapons, bat wings...

Anyway, if you're doing a witch, goat is an option - you'd get a +3 to survival. In fact, a goat is a small creature, and since you have Reduce Person on your spell list, it is possible to ride it around. Sounds like you'd want buff and battlefield control magic to help support your friends and "herd" your enemies - look at spells like Enlarge Person, Status, and Heroism for the former, and Web, Stinking Cloud, and Black Tentacles for the latter. For hexes, sounds like you want Healing, Fortune, and Ward. (Though if you want to be a little tougher on offense, Evil Eye/Cackle/Misfortune witches are by far the best debuffers in the game.)

Good luck, mr. goat herder! :P

Thanks for the advice. I like the idea for the summoner. Maybe I'll roll up both and then decide.

Druid with a dog companion could work, if you want something more 'stable' to ride around.
