Oil Barrel vs. Ground: How would it work?

Rules Questions

Okay, if I shrunk a barrel of oil and turned it into cloth, wrapped it around an arrowHEAD, shot it into the ground with the cloth in the dirt and said the command word. Would the barrel explode on impact with the ground because there is not enough space for it to expand?

Also another question, what if I ripped the cloth and tied the strips onto an arrow...would it expand into a pool of oil and pieces of wood?

Unless I'm missing something, the rules are completely silent on it. Its not under the spell description or under Transmutation generally in the Magic chapter.

So DM call unless there's a rule I'm missing.
