Both of the abilities are limited by being near or within 'and area with at least some dim light. In hide in plain sight, it states you cannot hide in your own shadow, indicating you can hide in the shadows of others, or other objects. For shadow jump. it uses the exact same wording, so I am making a logical connection here and thinking that you can jump between the shadows of people or objects, yes? This is for a game i'm running.

Shadow Lodge

It would seem to be a logical conclusion.

this has been argued before. the answer is yes. you can jump between any shadow cast by any object of person other than yourself, even if its brawd daylight and the only thing near you is a rock with a shadow 1-ft by 2-ft. you dont even have to make a stealth check before using shadow jump. you just have to be standing in the shadow.

I answered a question about HiPS that wasn't asked...

thanks. that's what I thought.

So effectively there is no limitation on Shadow Jump? You can always use it.
Since any source of light will create some shadow, barring elaborate traps set up specifically to prevent it.
Does non-magical darkness block it, since darkness is really just the shadow of whatever is between you and the sun, even if it's just miles of rock. Magical darkness could be argued to not be a shadow.

It's the same argument that led to the change in HiPS. Unfortunately they left in the "Can't hide in her own shadow" bit, leading some to conclude that the rest of the text of the ability "within 10 feet of an area of dim light" was irrelevant. I'd rule that the "area of dim light" part is the actual requirement. Especially so for Shadow Jump, which says only "The limitation is that the magical transport must begin and end in an area with at least some dim light" with no mention of the shadowdancer's own shadow.

The "can't hide in her own shadow" part of the HiPS description is an editing error left over from 3.5 rules. PF developers have said it wasn't meant to be left in the description. With that in mind just go with the "within 10' of an area of dim light" part of the description for your ability qualifier. Area of dim light isn't specifically quantified but most GM's seem to settle on at least a 5' square, ask your GM. Dim light, on the other hand, is specifically quantified and I don't think your buddies shadow would cut it.

Shadow Jump doesn't mention your own shadow or anyone elses shadow at all, the two are not worded the same:

At 4th level, a shadowdancer gains the ability to travel between shadows as if by means of a dimension door spell. The limitation is that the magical transport must begin and end in an area with at least some dim light.

All it says is you must begin and end in areas with at least some dim light. Again, dim light is specifically quantified in the rules and a person's shadow won't cut it. Now, the ability does not say you must actually be in the dim light, nor does it specify how close you must be to it, or the size of the area being described as having at least some dime light. Those things are going to be GM questions.
