Sorry if this is in the worng subforum - I have the HeroLab App and thought I'd check out 1st level Amiri - her bastard sword is listed as doing 2d8+4 damage?!?!?!?! Is this an error? Is it an oversized anime weapon? It is listed as Bastard Sword (L)...
Amiri uses a large one because backstory. Its not really that useful if your optimizing, but its why she gets a special 2d8 one that also happens to cost her a -2 to attack.

So I understand all the above. But why does she have Exotic Weapon proficiency? I thought you only need EWP if you wanted to wield the bastard sword in one hand? She can't do that if it's Large, so why?
If I am a martial character with martial weapon proficiencies, and I wish to use a Large Bastard Sword in two hands, do I need EWP to do so?

You need exotic to wield it in one hand, martial proficiency is a two handed weapon. Because its a one handed weapon, a large version is a two handed weapon for you. So yeah, otherwise its a two handed weapon and a large one is just too big! Then because she rages, she doesn't take a -2! Okay, so she does still take a -2, and it cancels out her +2, but its like you aren't taking any penalty when your raging so that's how its explained.

If you do not have EWP, then the bastard sword is a two handed weapon. You can not wield an oversized two handed weapon. So she needs the EWP to make it one handed so she can wield a large one with two hands.

Aha! Thanks guys. Fantastic logic - but it makes clear sense now.
Also today I heard about three-handed weapons in a discussion regarding Titan Maulers. So fun...
