Silver Crusade 2/5

Good afternoon,

So I have been contemplating gm'ing some of the PFS modules I have played (all online) for soem of my close friends. I have been reading through the books, but there is one thing I am not quiet sure on. How does a GM get credit for running a scenario for others? I know the short answer is run it! But what about the paperwork. Do we fill out the same sheets for ourselves in the back of the modules we give to the players for ourselves? or are there seperate sheets that we are suppose to do it on? I just want to stay 100% within the rules.

Oh and can I gm something more than once (obviously not for credit) in order for others to have a chance to play it and get credit?

And if I gm a module I haven't played yet, am I allowed to play that same module later as long as I don't spoil the story for the other players and making sure to RP out my character as if I had no knowledge of it?

Thank you for your help.

These answers are somewhat in order.

Yes, you would complete a chronicle for yourself as well as the players. There are no special GM chronicles for running a scenario/module.

You can run a scenario for no credit if you choose. I have several that I would gladly run for no credit because they were a lot of fun.

You can play something you GM as long as you play as stated.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thank you very much!

Greetings Expax.

I just wanted to poke my head in and thank you for stepping up and helping contribute to your community by GMing.

I also wanted to link you to Painlord's guide on how to be a better GM. It's a bit long to read in one sitting, and I don't agree with all the details but Painlord's attitude really helped pushed the quality of my GMing.

Good show Expax!

Something to keep in mind, there are 1st level scenarios that you can play multiple times for credit (First Steps 1 through 3 and We Be Goblins for example), assuming you apply it to different characters each time. I believe that GMing those multiple times gives you credit just as if you had played it with a level 1.

True. Also don't for "Master of the Fallen Fortress".

I have lots of scenarios that I have run but not taken GM credit for any of my characters. You just have to be a little more careful with your bookkeeping (only word I know with 3 sets of double letters together :-)). If in the future you run that scenario again you will know if it is OK to give credit to one of your characters.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement! It is really appreciated. Right now by big decision is trying to decide what should I try to run first. I have already setup on roll20 for both the Accursed Halls : Thornkeep module and a PFS: Pathfinder Society Scenario #8: Slave Pits of Absalom. Do you think its better go with a scenario first or a module?

Also any recommendations where to find players who won't eat me alive and serve me to hungry kobolds?

Be assured that the kobolds are sharpening their knives as we speak. But that is a good thing. Remember that you are trying to orchestrate the player's fun. They will win almost all of the time. I am a big prep guy. I read everything multiple times. I double check the spells used by the bad guys that I will be running. I pre-draw maps (not at all required but it works better for me) and think through the strategies that I think that I will see. So I would recommend a scenario instead of a module for your first go around. Also, Year zero scenarios (1-28 except 0-05) are written for D&D 3.5 and have to be tweaked for use in Pathfinder. My personal favorite is the level one only scenario "Master of the Fallen Fortress". It is well written. You only have to prep for one sub-tier instead of 2 or 3 and all of the monsters are easy to run and understand.

P.S. And you'll get to scare the pants off of the players. Have Fun. :-)

If you're looking for online players, you can try posting a signup on the Online Play forum for PFS, or you can go to the Pathfinder Society Online Collective. There will definitely be players who want to play there.
