There's a guy that runs around with 500 alchemical cartridges in are PFS game. The other day he failed a save versus a fire based attack. We were not sure how to handle this. Should we have him roll saves for the cartridges and if so, how many at a time? Also, how much damage should he take if they fail?
If there's a rule in one of the books it would be great to know its location.
Thanks...

Does the character keep his ammo in sealed pouches/containers? Because if not, I'm surprised he's lasted long enough to afford to be able to strap that many explosives to himself.
My gunslingers usually carry 40 rounds in water-and-fire-proof spring loaded wrist sheathes (the description says each one will carry about 20 rounds)
The rest is carried in a Handy Haversack. I don't like feeling like a suicide bomber whenever someone starts rolling around Flaming Spheres.
(it's worth noting that Instantaneous effects, like Fireball, don't actually have a chance of lighting things on fire. They're mostly flash heat and concussion I guess. Persistent effects, like Wall of Fire are the ones that risk catching things on fire)

Did he roll a Nat 1? Then they blow up.
If he didn't, just failed a check? Then nothing happens. He just takes what the text says.| Thanis Kartaleon |
500 alchemical cartridges are equivalent to 5 kegs of black powder. When exposed to fire, powder kegs explode, dealing 5d6 damage in a 20-ft. radius (Reflex DC 15 half). In a home game, he'd probably be hosed.
However, since it's PFS, he's protected: Held and worn items are assumed to survive area damage effects unscathed, unless you roll a natural 1. Even in the event you do roll a 1, only one item is affected, and that item is randomly determined from an ordered list. Held in Hand is one of the list items, so his firearm could be affected. If so, any alchemical cartridges loaded in the firearm would also be affected.

Thanks, that helps a lot.
