Timing of Snapdragon Fireworks in round 1

Rules Questions

Okay, I've got a question about how the timing of snapdragon fireworks works, particularly in the first round.

The actual spell takes a standard action to cast. Does this casting include the first "firework" attack? Or do I do that separately? The wording seems to indicate that the firework is only thrown as a move action, which would separate it from the actual casting of the spell.

Also, does the duration (1 round per level) include the round in which it is cast?

If it is a separate action to throw the firework, and the casting round is included in duration, then this basically makes the spell a full-round action, or you cast it as a standard action but you lose your first firework, which if you're 1st level is your only one.

On the other hand, if the casting round is not included in duration, then this basically gives you an extra firework as you can throw one in the casting (or the "zeroth") round and then one in the first round.

I'm guessing that the casting includes the first firework, since that solves all these weird problems, but nowhere in the spell's description does it actually say that. The other simple solution would be to say that the first round the spell is in effect is the round after casting the spell which would mean that no firework can get thrown in the first round at all.

This is usually indicative of what the right answer is.

Basically any targeted spell that requires an attack roll includes that attack roll as part of the casting.

Usually. There will be specific instructions if the spell wishes otherwise.

Okay, thanks. This is what I figured on my first reading of the spell but looking at it more closely I realized this wasn't explicit; it does seem like the wording could have been improved for this spell.

But if this is an overall rule then that answers it.
