A summoner has more levels than an eidolon. Therefore, he can retrain his eidolon's hit points to max, right? (Assuming the appropriate gold and time are spent, of course.) Is there anything preventing this? Could it be considered an abuse of some kind?

What about a synthesist summoner's eidolon? The retraining rules don't seem to differentiate what kind of hit points can be retrained. Is there anything in the rules preventing that?

Shadow Lodge

The retraining rules say that you can retrain your hit points or your eidolon's evolutions, but not your eidolon's hit points.

What retraining rules are these? I am aware of rules for retraining (or completely rebuilding) a PFS character, but this sounds like something else entirely.

I seriously doubt the rules are so limited as that, Weirdo.

I saw no indication that non-PC characters couldn't also benefit from retraining. In fact, it's heavily implied that many NPCs change classes during their childhood.

Theconiel, you can find the rules for retraining pretty much anything and everything in the new Ultimate Campaign book.

The book assumes PC's. An NPC would not have to retrain because they are normally run by GM's who can give it whatever he wants to. It most likely involves GM Fiat to apply those rules to an NPC.

<Realizes RD won't take my word for it..Goes to look at the book>
The book says "you" the entire time. That is referencing the player/PC. You would need GM fiat to allow it to apply to any NPC's under your control.

Thank you for looking into the matter for me, wraithstrike, but I am still not convinced. There are many other classes and abilities out there that say "you" the entire time, yet they are not limited to PCs alone.

Furthermore, I've always understood that a PC could do anything within the rules that an NPC could do and vice versa except where noted. I see this particular situation as being no different.

I also find it hard to believe that it could be considered impossible for an NPC to be able to train themselves to become tougher.

My point is that the rules are written to address the player, not a PC. It just so happens that things like feats apply to every character unless stated otherwise.

Another example is that NPC's can have PC class levels so of course they would be the same. Now a PC(summoner) could use his money to retrain the eidolon if a GM allows it, but I would not say it is assumed to be legal within the rules. <---That does not mean If find it gamebreaking.

Why wouldn't you assume it was legal within the rules? There's nothing that seems to forbid it.
