Double weapon with throwing and returning on only one end?

What happens when a double weapon has throwing and returning put on only one end?

If you throw the weapon such that that end is used to attack, it is a thrown weapon and comes flying back.

If you throw the weapon such that the other end is used to attack, it is not a thrown weapon and stays where you threw it.

Pretty simple, really.
