Question on trained and untrained skills

I have a quick question and, sorry if it's been asked before, but I am making an Aasimar Angelkin character and I am stuck on this point.
Angelkin receive a +2 racial bonus to Knowledge (planes) but this is a trained-only skill.
Do 1) you apply the +2 racial bonus when using Knowledge (planes) untrained
or 2) you cannot attempt to use Knowledge (planes) untrained regardless (the +2 magically appears after you have ranks in it)

Normally you can't use Trained only skills untrained... Knowledge Skills have a special case though. If the DC of the Knowledge check is 10 or lower anyone can try it untrained, at that point you would get your +2 Angelkin bonus. If the DC is higher then 10 you can't make the check if you are not trained in the Knowledge skill.
