All right, so your father was a local arrow fletcher within Sandpoint. As a child, growing up around bows you felt an affinity towards them, and asked permission to work with the local mercanary Shaleau to learn to be a ranger. Your father, a stern dwarf, did not feel like the chaotic ways of an elf would be the most "appropriate" way for you to have your upbringing, but wanted to encourage your natural affinity with bows. He agreed to send you to training; but only if you would go to the dwarven monastaries for it (he knew of a particular monastary to X god which would do this training for you).
You learned greatly at the monastary the values of inner peace, but while you were away, much of the town burned down during the incidents with "The Chopper"; including your father's fletching shop. By the time word reached you in the mountains, an adventuring group had already brought justice to the city; but sadly you did not have the funds necessary to pay for any raise for your father. Out of kindness and pity for your loss, the monastary agreed to continue your schooling without pay, and you finished up your last few years with the school.
About a year ago,you finished your training and returned to Sandpoint. The city has been very peaceful of late, and you have eagerly assisted Father Zantus in the building of his new monastary; believing this center is what the city needs to finally put its bloody past behind it. As the commencing ceramony of the Swallowtail Festival approaches (this isn't a spoiler, it's the first scene for RoTRL); you look forward to the fun activities planned by Zantus and his group.
