I was thinking you had to be five levels over the maximum caster level in order to use intensive spell for a spell. Tenth level for shocking grasp, fifteenth level for fireball and so forth. Am I wrong on this ;Henceforth, then, how do you calculate when you can use intensive spell being I'm wrong?
You can use Intensive Spell like any other metamagic. As long as you can pay the level increase you can use it.
Now it may not give a full BENEFIT if your caster level is not 5 or more levels over the maximum results of an unaltered spell but nothing says you cannot use it.
You increase the damage cap by 5 more caster levels. If, for example, your only 2 caster levels over the spells inherent cap then you get 2 more caster levels of effect. You will need to get 3 more caster levels to get full use out of the feat.
Just plan to take it and use it appropriately.

Thanks, I never knew you could use it W/O the five extra levels.
You could be a 5th level wizard and use it on shocking grasp by expending a second level spell slot. It would not get you any benefit because your not strong enough in CL to do so yet but as long as you can pay the level increase you can use a Metamagic effect.
But that does not mean it will always be effective, depending on HOW you use it.

I plan on using this with a Magus at 11th level in PFS. I never thought I could use it before hand. Don't know if that would have changed things of me using this feat before 11th level. I have a set number of feats I plan to get and of course, some are more important than others. Maximized spell strike at 13th, greater trip at 9th and the like.
