Hello all,

This is my first "real" post on the message boards. I apologize if I am breaking any protocols.

I was thinking about all of the wonderful products produced in various fantasy role playing games over the years. Perhaps my favourite parts of my collection would be the old mega-adventure "box-sets".

I know some will say that it is already being done through map packs, cards, map folios and adventure paths, etc. But, there is just nothing so pleasing as that codified set of material in a beautiful container. The recent "Rise of the Runelords" collection is a quarter of the way there.

I think of the "Rod of 7 Parts" and "Dragon Mountain", "Ruins of Undermountain", etc.

Wouldn't that be awesome?

Vic Wertz on why Paizo doesn't make boxed sets

And welcome to the boards! :)

And they do "sort of" if you add the pieces together. For Rise of the Rune Lord, for instance, I purchased the mini set ($12 off Amazon) and card set ($9 off same) that allow my players to see the exact characters they are fighting and have flash cards to reference. So for about $60, and I have cards that my players can reference of all of the NPCs, minis that look exactly like what they are fighting, and an amazingly well-written module.

That's better than anything you'd ever get out of those boxes, aside from maybe the box itself :). Yes I do think it would be a cool product if Paizo took those items with a set of dice and a nice set of pre-statted PCs to choose from (along with cardboard minis for those characters), but understand that might be too niche of a product, and difficult for gamestores to stock (those boxes are bulkier than books).

I mean the link in Joana's post is the full explanation. The enomics of it simply dont work. TSR drove itself out of business with boxed set. And while i would love to get everything I need in a boxed set to run an adventure, its not worth risking paizo's existence over even if they could find a way to make it work. It just makes sense to have almost all their key products between 10 and 30 dollars, then to have one set of 80 dollar products.
