Here's the situation. Human cleric evangelist, lots of enchantment focused abilities, including spell focus. the major enemies in the campaign are outsiders. human favored class for clerics is +1 PER LEVEL to overcome the SR of outsiders. does he even NEED spell pen, for the off chance he encounters something that's not an outsider? if so, how early should he take it? one of my players was curious and i honestly dont know. i could see not taking it, +10 at 10th level to beat SR is great. and the most common thing with SR IS outsiders. thoughts?

I'm inclined to not use the human bonus that way. I prefer the feats because it works on anything. The extra skill points or HP is more valuable in my mind.

True, but taking campaign into account, they are playing savage tide, which is demons galore and almost everything is an evil outsider.

If most of the enemies in your campaign would be affected by the favored class bonus then yeah that's pretty awesome for him. I would skip Spell Penetration in this case or at the very least take it around 9 or 11 if he had nothing else better he wanted; I don't know a lot about the bestiary, but in my experience as a player I never had to make too many SR checks until around there.

If the player didn't know for a fact that the game was evil outsider focused then I would agree with notabot.

Start taking it at level 1. Don't look back.

You WANT dismissal to work.
