PFS: Should I save my gold?

Advice

Sczarni

I've made a Zen Archer for my next PFS character. I'm tempted to save my starting gold and just use a sling as my ranged weapon for level 1. Bad idea?

Sure I won't be able to flurry with it, but I will get to add my STR to damage, and the feat I've selected as a bonus feat (Precise Shot) still works with the sling.

I figure if I save my money I can get that strength rated composite longbow faster.

Thoughts?

You can get a good composite bow after a single mission if you get both prestige points. Using a different character and rebuilding might be an option.

Are you sure you want to go through your first mission doing D4+str? That sound appealing, imo.

What is your Str? If it is 16 or under, you can get one after your first game with no gold.

You can use 2 prestige points from your first game to get up to a : MW Darkwood Composite (+3str) Longbow for 730g, which falls under the single item under 750g for PFS. It's the thing I recommend to any ranged character even before their first CLW wand for PFS.

Point taken, but d4+STR does sound about as appealing as d8+ nothing.

I had thought about the PP for the dark wood bow, but was also thinking about that wand of CLW. Trying to see if both are possible...

If you do all your faction missions, you can get one or the other after each of the first 2 games.

I always put my priority on my ability to kill things. Don't have to heal me nearly as much that way.
